European Union ministers are preparing to confirm their commitment to the green transition despite rising energy prices and supply worries, Euronews reported. The bloc plans to frame energy security as a primary reason to move away from fossil fuels at the upcoming COP31 climate summit in Turkey. [1]

According to a draft Council position document seen by Euronews, the EU links the clean energy transition directly to securing affordable energy supplies. The strategy aims to decrease strategic dependencies as current supply problems highlight the region reliance on foreign providers, including growing dependence on United States liquefied natural gas. The United Nations Climate Change Conference, or Conference of the Parties, has met every year since the first UN climate agreement was created in 1992. Governments gather at the event to negotiate policies to restrict global temperature rises and adjust to climate impacts. [2]
