Donald Trump announces Presidential Medal of Freedom for Roger Clemens

Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that former Major League Baseball star Roger Clemens will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Trump made the statement during a rally in San Antonio, Texas, where Clemens introduced him, the New York Post and Daily Mail reported. [1][2]

Clemens was caught off guard by the announcement, according to the New York Post. Clemens told the crowd that he was stunned and added that receiving the honor supersedes anything he accomplished during his 24-year playing career. [1]

Trump called Clemens one of the greatest pitchers ever, the Daily Mail reported. Clemens is an 11-time All-Star, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, and a two-time World Series champion who played for teams including the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Houston Astros, the New York Post, Daily Mail, and Wikipedia reported. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the joint highest civilian honor in the United States alongside the Congressional Gold Medal, according to Wikipedia. It is awarded by the decision of the president to recognize people who have made meritorious contributions to national interests, peace, or cultural endeavors. [9]
