The Democratic National Committee sued President Donald Trump's administration on Wednesday over television advertisements funded by taxpayers. France 24, Fox News, PBS NewsHour, and the Washington Examiner reported that the lawsuit alleges the White House used government funds for illegal political propaganda. The spots began airing ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. [1][2][4][5]

According to the lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the administration diverted 20 million dollars in federal funds to produce and broadcast the ads. France 24, Fox News, and PBS NewsHour reported that the complaint accuses President Trump of personally directing the campaign to boost his approval ratings and support Republican candidates. [1][2][4][5]

France 24 and PBS NewsHour reported that the television spots glorify the president and echo his campaign message. France 24 noted that the administration faced bipartisan backlash over the advertisements. PBS NewsHour reported that President Trump defended the taxpayer funded spots, saying they were really good. [1][4]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Donald Trump previously announced that his political action committee MAGA Inc. would pay for promotional advertisements after initial criticism over federal spending. President Trump's second tenure as president began on January 20, 2025. [11][12]

The Democratic National Committee asks the district court to declare the television advertisements illegal. France 24 and PBS NewsHour reported that the legal action seeks to stop the administration from using federal funds to pay for the campaign. [1][4]
