Voters in the Czech Republic cast ballots on Friday and Saturday in local elections and a vote for one third of the seats in the Senate. Euronews and FTMQ News reported that the vote was viewed as a popularity test for Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis and his administration. Euronews stated that 154 candidates stood for 27 seats in the Senate. [1][10]
According to the Czech Statistics Office, five senators were elected in the first round. Euronews reported that this result equals a historic record set in 2024. None of the five candidates who won seats outright were from the ANO movement led by Andrej Babis. [1]
Outlets offered differing assessments on the initial overall result. Euronews and Yahoo News Australia reported that the ANO movement faced a strong challenge in the voting. The Washington Times and GazetteXtra reported that the ruling party of the prime minister led in the first round of the Senate election. [1][2][3][4]
Andrej Babis founded the ANO party in 2012. He currently serves as the prime minister of the Czech Republic, having returned to office in December 2025 after previously holding the post from 2017 to 2021, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [7][10]

- Five candidates were elected to the Czech Senate in the first round of voting.
