Dayanna Familia, aged 35, was arraigned in court in Dorchester on Monday following her arrest by police on Saturday, the New York Post reported. She was arrested over the death of her four-year-old daughter, Liyanna, who died on August 17. [1]

According to the New York Post, citing local police and NBC 10, police officers attempted to save the child in the 200 block of Fuller Street just before 9 p.m. in August. The child was rushed to a local hospital, where she died. [1]

Prosecutors told the court that the mother allegedly claimed to first responders that her daughter was drinking milk when she turned blue, the New York Post reported.
