The BBC announced on Thursday that it will cut a raft of Radio 4 programmes as the corporation seeks 500 million pounds in savings, BBC News reported. Cancelled shows include the consumer and social affairs show You and Yours, the social sciences show Thinking Allowed, and the arts show Free Thinking. Other programmes slated for cancellation include The Artificial Human and Open Country. [1]

The broadcaster also plans to reduce schedule and podcast commissioning at Radio 5 Live, BBC News reported. However, the corporation committed to investing in a replacement consumer programme alongside two new weekly shows that will focus on technology, artificial intelligence, and global ideas. [1]

Radio programming was originally built on late nineteenth century developments in electromagnetic waves and wireless telegraphy, leading to early public broadcasts in the twentieth century. [4]
