Ballot boxes arrive in remote Indigenous Brazilian communities ahead of presidential vote

Ballot boxes have been delivered by boat to remote Indigenous communities in Brazil ahead of the country's presidential election, Al Jazeera reported. Incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva faces Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, with Amazon conservation standing as a central issue in the race. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, President Lula and Senator Bolsonaro held their final campaign events on Saturday in Sao Paulo state ahead of Sunday's first-round vote. Sao Paulo state accounts for one-fifth of all votes in Brazil, and recent polling indicates that Lula's lead has narrowed, making a second-round runoff likely. [4][5]

Indigenous peoples in Brazil comprise the populations whose ancestors lived in the country prior to European contact around 1500. According to the 2010 census, Brazil contains 305 distinct Indigenous ethnic groups. [2]
