Adults aged 50 and older with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder face more than four times the risk of developing dementia or mild cognitive impairment, Fox News reported. The findings come from a study led by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. [1]

According to Fox News, the observational study analyzed the electronic health records and genetic information of more than 187,000 participants. The data was gathered from individuals enrolled in the National Institutes of Health All of Us Research Program in the United States. [1]

Dementia is a progressive syndrome that causes cognitive deficits that impair daily functioning and independence. Alzheimer disease is the most common form of the condition and typically begins with memory impairment involving recent events before causing deficits in language and executive function. [3]
